WP1 OMRAS2 System Infrastructure

This topic discusses specification and development of the core OMRAS2 system infrastructure, such as how to support plugin tools using Web Services architectures.

Data storage

  • How data will be stored / accessed

Web Services

  • Which services will be available

Platforms

  • The Knowledge Machine framework, based on SWI-Prolog, was developed in the Centre for Digital Music, over the last few years, in order to create a workspace for multimedia analysis researchers, which is aware of an open-world knowledge environment, based on Semantic Web technologies
  • Representational State Transfer, simple architectural style for distributed hypermedia systems

  • ERLANG Ph.D. thesis (PDF) "Making reliable distributed systems in the presence of software errors" which talks about Erlang a lot. (Actually, it's all about Erlang and was written by one of the inventors of Erlang). Clearly, were not planning to have any software errors but it makes an interesting read and raises my good points.]

  • MPEG-7 Description Definition Language The nuts and bolts of the XML Schema syntax
  • MPEG-A Multimedia Application Format
    • Integrates lots of different audio-video encoding standards and metadata standards into a single payload format. This standard can encpasulate existing metadata such as ID3 and MPEG-7 Schema descriptions.
  • MPEG-7
    • A schema-based hirerarchy describing the syntax of multimedia descriptions: includes low-level and high-level audio features
  • MPEG-7 Query Format
    • A query language and exchange protocol for organising and querying multimedia databases
  • MPEG-21
    • A framework for commercial enterprise built upon digital items including digital rights management

Semantic-web related languages/protocols

Documentation

Testing

  • How will the parts be tested?
